Brindley II continues

07.01.10 – Sandwell Chronicle

Work is progressing on a £42 million housing scheme to transform Smethwick.

The Brindley II scheme is set to create 200 homes, along with shops, cafes and parks around Lewisham Road, Mafeking Road and the Birmingham Mainline canal, by 2011.

Outline planning permission was given to build homes and other facilities on the 11-acre site.

Sandwell's regeneration boss, Councillor Bob Badham said the work was still ongoing. Developers PxP West Midlands have already secured more than £8 million in funding from Urban Living, English Partnerships and Sandwell Council to buy up buildings on the land. The submission of a detailed application and a start date is expected once all the properties have been acquired.
